Winnipeg police: Crash sends bicyclist to hospital

A bicyclist was taken to the hospital in critical condition after being hit by a truck on the Pembina Highway Tuesday morning.

According to police, the crash happened at the intersection of North Daly Street. Police were called at 6:30 a.m. and found an 83-year-old man with “serious injuries” after being hit by a car. A tourniquet was applied to the man and he was taken to hospital in critical condition, where he remains.

Police tape has been put up at the scene and a bicycle can be seen on the road.

Police said the bicyclist was heading eastbound on Daly Street, northbound, when he was about to cross Pembina Highway when he collided with a southbound Chevrolet Colorado. The truck driver remained at the scene and spoke with law enforcement officers.

Southbound Pembina at North Daly Street was closed due to the investigation but has since reopened.

The traffic department is investigating. Anyone with information, including video or surveillance footage, is asked to call police at 204-986-7085.
