Winnipeg Airport surpassed four million annual passengers for the first time since 2019

2023 was a record year for Winnipeg Richardson International Airport.

Last year, 4,094,793 people traveled through Winnipeg, marking the first time since the start of the pandemic that the airport handled more than four million passengers in a single year.

Winnipeg Richardson International Airport handled more than 957,000 passengers in the fourth quarter alone.

“Looking back at our journey over the past twelve months and all that our dedicated team members have achieved with our esteemed partners, there is much to be proud of,” said Nick Hayes, WAA President and CEO. “From new destinations to new airlines to more options for travelers, 2023 is truly an exciting year as it makes Manitoba an even better place to call home.”

Winnipeg Airports Authority's consolidated revenue is also up 11.1% year-over-year to $40.5 million in 2022.

“We're excited to see how far we've come to continue our recovery,” Hayes said. “But at the same time, we know that we still have a long way to go before our organization can return to the financial position it once loved, because we had to take on additional debt to ensure that we could continue to operate the airport during the pandemic. – an important part of infrastructure for society”.

A free mobile phone line was recently introduced at the airport for drivers waiting for passengers. In other major developments, Porter announced nonstop service between Winnipeg and Ottawa this spring, and the airport will unveil a new YWG sign in the arrivals hall to help welcome travelers.
