Montreal weather keeps winter in store this week with more snow

Montreal is getting a new layer of snow this week, a sign that winter isn't over yet. Despite the warmer-than-usual weather that saw the city receive some of its usual snow, the forecast suggests a return to cooler conditions this month.

A low pressure system from the north will bring down temperatures in Quebec, including Montreal. This change not only blankets the city with fresh snow, but it also melts significantly over the weekend and then refreezes by mid-week. The cycle is expected to create dangerous ice patches on roads and sidewalks, making travel difficult for drivers and pedestrians.

The temperature contrast will be stark, with MétéoMédia predicting a 14°C drop by Wednesday, a reminder of the season's chill. Cities such as Gatineau, Quebec and Saguenay, along with Montreal, will experience a sharp drop in temperatures, going from mild to seriously cold in a matter of days.

During a wind chill, the temperature is colder than the thermometer suggests. Wind chills are expected to reach -15 degrees in Montreal, and even lower in other regions such as the Laurentians and Saguenay.

Environment Canada's detailed forecast calls for a cooler forecast, with a mix of sun and clouds on Monday, with a 30% chance of showers and a steady temperature around 2C. However, the real change will begin on Tuesday night with snow forecast, which will lead to severe weather conditions. This week will be mixed with clear, sunny days, especially with periods of snow towards the weekend.

On Wednesday, under clear skies, temperatures can drop to -3 degrees during the day and -11 degrees at night. On Thursday, there will be some sunshine and the temperature will rise to -3 degrees, but at night it will snow again and the temperature will drop to -7 degrees.

It will snow on Friday, with a high temperature of -3 degrees, but the temperature will drop significantly to -17 degrees during the cloudy period overnight. A mix of sun and clouds over the weekend will clear up slightly to -9 degrees on Saturday and -14 degrees at night. This pattern will continue on Sunday and will reach -5 degrees.

Despite unusually warm weather and less snow this season, Montreal's winter still packs a punch. So keep your warm clothes handy and keep an eye out for possible icy patches after the snowfall.
