GO Transit, the Toronto Transit Commission and other agencies will be part of Ontario's new One Tare program. GO Transit

TORONTO – The Ontario government will launch a program later this month that will unify fares across all Toronto-area transit systems, meaning transit users will pay the same fare no matter how many transfers they make.

The single-fare program includes GO Transit, the Toronto Transit Commission and several other agencies, with provincial transportation agency Metrolinx reimbursing local operations for lost revenue, the CBC reported. The province estimates it will save the region's transit users about $1,600 a year and encourage about 8 million additional transit trips each year.

The provincial government has allocated C$67 million over two years for the initial phase of the program, which is based on an earlier program that included GO Transit and local transit services, but not the TTC.

Provincial Premier Doug Ford called the program a “game changer for transit riders” at a press conference Monday: “It's going to give people transit options and convenience.”

More details about the program can be found here.
