1 person rescued from balcony during high-rise fire in downtown Toronto

One person was taken to the hospital with serious injuries after a fire at Sherbourne and Shuter streets Sunday night.

Toronto Fire responded to reports of black smoke coming from a building in the area at approximately 5:41 p.m.

The police and fire service arrived at the scene and reported a two-alarm fire.

Part of the 12th floor was fully engulfed in flames on arrival but is now out and under control.

One resident took refuge on a balcony and was later rescued by TFS crews and evaluated at the scene. The victim was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Delays and road closures are expected in the area.
