5 things – Flames @ Rangers

All eyes are on the big apple, and there's a chance for a great ride.

The Flames – or perhaps the Hyenas – will look to extend their winning streak to five games against the Rangers at Madison Square Garden and embark on this four-game road trip that has rejuvenated and revitalized the team after all of the NHL's tournaments. Star break.

In their last three games, Calgary has outscored the opposition – 14-6 over the Bruins, Devils and Islanders – and will take on the Metropolitan Division leaders tonight, not as individuals, but as a group.

“I think it's the mentality that everybody's been adjusting to,” forward Blake Coleman said after Sunday's practice at MSG. “We know what we are, we know what makes us successful, it was just a matter of guys willing to buy and pay. price, and everyone is doing it right now.

“I feel like the guys are just having fun, and I think that's where a lot of it comes from.”

It shows: Coleman said in the past few media sessions that the team is looser, deeper and more cohesive.

Smiles during practice, on the bench and in the locker room are also positive evidence of a sense of connection.

And everyone is going inside.

Forward Nazem Kadri, who led the league with five assists in February, believes the best recipe for success, both tonight and in the long run, is to stick with what's working.

“We need to continue this momentum and understand why we have been successful; it plays together,” Kadri said Sunday. “It took a while to figure it out, but I think now we're really starting to understand it, and it's led to great results.”

It also helps when you're a world-class goalkeeper.

In his last four starts, Jacob Markstrom has a .954 save percentage with his four wins, totaling 125 saves, the second-most in the NHL over that stretch.

The four-game road trip ended with meetings with the division leaders; Bruins six days ago, Rangers tonight.

But as we saw last week, these Calgary canines are ready to take on all comers.
