Life is in danger after fire at high-rise in downtown Toronto

A man is in life-threatening condition after a fire broke out at a high-rise in downtown Toronto on Sunday, paramedics said.

Emergency crews were called to the area of ​​Sherbourne Street and Shuter Street just after 5:30 p.m.

Toronto fire spokesman Capt. Dan Vieira said the 12th-floor unit was fully engulfed, and one person was sheltering on a balcony at the time. The individual was rescued by firefighters.

According to emergency doctors, the man was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Another person was checked at the scene.

The fire has been extinguished, but police say motorists should expect delays in the area.
