Mayor Eric Adams' administration will impose 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. curfews at 20 migrant shelters starting Monday, after initially imposing restrictions at four other locations. The Daily News reports.

The curfew affects about 3,600 migrants, with the largest emergency centers in Long Island City, Queens, housing about 1,000 migrants. City officials first imposed curfews at four shelters last month in response to neighborhood complaints.

The additional curfews come after a spike in migrant-related violence and crime prompted alarming rhetoric from city and police officials.

A 15-year-old boy from Venezuela was arrested Friday in connection with a shooting in Times Square after he was stopped by security after fleeing from police and allegedly shoplifting. A tourist from Brazil was injured in the shooting.

Last month, a video of a group of migrants fighting with police in Times Square also went viral, leading to several arrests.

The 24 migrant shelters now under restrictions are part of more than 200 such facilities operating in the city to accommodate 66,000 newly arrived asylum seekers. Traditional homeless shelters in the city have long had similar curfews.

Spokespeople for the mayor's office did not respond to an email seeking comment on Sunday.

But Kayla Mamelak, a spokeswoman for Adams, said Daily news extending the curfew “allows the city to more effectively manage the potential of migrants in its care.”
