An armed and barricaded incident left three Winnipeg officers dead

Three Winnipeg police officers were shot and killed Saturday during an armed and barricaded incident in the North End.

The incident began around 3:10 a.m. Saturday when police received a report that a woman was being held against her will at an apartment building in the 200 block of College Avenue.

According to police, several people were inside the apartment, some of them believed to be armed.

Members of the tactical support team safely removed some of the building's occupants, including a woman who was being held against her will. However, some did not go.

Police officers were at the scene for several hours. A critical incident team was launched, involving crisis negotiators, a tactical support team, an unmanned aerial vehicle unit and a uniform patrol.

Three police officers were shot dead during the clash. Their injuries were not life-threatening.

Eventually, two men in their 40s were arrested.

Major crimes and homicide units are investigating.
