Police are investigating a homicide in Stoney Creek

Homicide detectives are investigating the death of a 56-year-old man who was found critically injured in a Stoney Creek home Saturday night, Hamilton police said.

In a press release issued early Sunday morning, police said officers were called to a home near Trafalgar and Clay Streets around 7:40 p.m. Saturday. When they arrived, they found a man with serious injuries. He was taken to a hospital but later succumbed to his injuries, police said.

According to police, the suspect and the victim were known to each other and witnesses told officers that the male suspect got into an argument with the victim and ran away from his home.

Police said the suspect, who was in the area 30 minutes before the incident, fled in a small, black SUV. The car was last seen heading north on Trafalgar towards Mud Street.

Police have not yet released the victim's name.

Investigators are asking witnesses or anyone with video footage of the area to contact Det. Lisa Chambers 905-546-3843.
