BLACK HISTORY MONTH

February 33rd anniversary Black History Month in Montreal. This year's theme is “Many stories, one story(Plusieurs nuances, Une Histoire). Many of the events listed here celebrate Black History Month.

DANCE

The popular Danse Danse series presents Detrás del sur: danzas para Manuel. Sankofa Danzafrofounded dance company legendary Colombian choreographer Rafael Palacios for the study of Afro-traditional, contemporary and urban dance languages. This show pays homage to a literary masterpiece Chango el Gran Putas Author Manuel Zapata Olivella follows the saga of the black African diaspora in the New World. February 21-24 at Théâtre Maisonneuve.

CLASSIC

Pianist Louis Laurie and Montreal Symphony Orchestra Take us from Mozart's Vienna to the concert halls of Fauré's Paris. San Francisco Opera Music Director Yoon Soon Kim Conducts Mussorgsky Pictures from the exhibitionMozart and Fauré for three concerts with Louis Lortie and Yoon Sun Kim (February 15 and 17).

An icon of classical music and a specialist in the contemporary repertoire, an internationally known Canadian soprano Barbara Hannigan Returns to OSM as soprano and conductor with Richard Strauss and Poulenc's Barbara Hannigan (February 21 and 22). After that Grammy-winning maestro Raphael Payare Raphael conducts Hannigan and OSM in Payaret and Bruckner's Fourth Symphony (February 28 and 29).

Khufu Horizon

The Horizon of Khufu is a unique virtual reality exhibition at the PHI Center from February 16th to March 31st.

Quebec playwright Michel Marc Bouchard wrote the libretto of La Reine-Garson, adapted from his play Christine, la Reine-Garson, suggested Montreal Opera at Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier from February 3-11.

EXHIBITIONS

The Phi Center presents Color: The Unknown Life of Claudette Colvin, an augmented reality experience that uses the HoloLens 2 augmented reality headset. American black civil rights pioneer and icon Claudette Colvin. It will be held from February 7 to March 10.

Joey Elias leads a legion of friends

Joy Elias performs the comedy film “Legion of Friends” for the Mohawk Legion 219 of the Royal Canadian Legion on Feb. 10 at the Legion 219 branch in Kanewahk.

PHI also offers The Horizon of Khufu: A Journey in Ancient Egypt, a unique virtual reality expedition that combines ancient history with new technologies. Retrace the reign of the Egyptian pharaoh Khufu and explore the 146m Great Pyramid of Giza, Khufu's final resting place was built between 2590 and 2565 BC. Visitors will walk through the galleries and spaces of the Great Pyramid for stunning views of modern-day Cairo and the Giza Plateau, then board an Ancient Egyptian Sun Boat on the Nile to witness the burial of Khufu 4,500 years ago.

Khufu Horizon is located near the Montreal Science Center in the Old Port. Children under 8 years old are not accepted. The 45-minute immersive experience runs from February 16 to March 31.

COMEDY

Montreal is a comic legend Joey Elias “Legion of Friends” is the theme of the comedy film “Legion of Friends” for the Mohawk Legion 219 of the Royal Canadian Legion, Feb. 10 at the Legion 219 branch in Kahnawake.

Comedy Nest hosted by The Underground Comedy RailroadCanada's First Black Comedy TourOn February 18. The annual tour has been touring Canada since 2012 during BHM. This year's show features hilarious stand-up comics. Rodney Ramsey, Daniel Woodrow, Tamara Shevon and Kisha Brownie.

The Underground Comedy Railroad features hilarious stand-up comics Rodney Ramsey, Daniel Woodrow, Tamara Shevon and Keesha Brownie.

A veteran of late-night television Pete Correal On February 24, the Australian comedy troupe brings its reality tour to the Beanfield Theatre. Sushi Mango topic Olympia Theater on February 25th and comic sensation Masood Bumgaard will headline the Fairmount Theater with his alter ego. A self-help song On February 29.

POP MUSIC

Productions Nuits d'Afrique Canada's legendary Juno Award winner presents South African world music diva Lorraine Claasen at the Fairmount Theater (February 10). Born and raised in Soweto, Klaasen is one of the South African artists who preserves the classic sound of town music.

Other notes for February: Montreal singer-songwriter Charlotte Cardin at Place Bell (February 8-11), legendary British-American rapper Slick Rick at The Theater Paradoxe (February 15), Quebec rock icon Michel Pagliaro opening an acoustic show at Le Club Dix30 (February 17), MTELUS- ta (Feb. 21), Enrique Iglesias, Pitbull and Ricky Martin at the Bell Center (Feb. 22), Nigerian superstar “King of Afrofusion” Burna Boyda at the Bell Center (Feb. 28 and 29), Montreal indie rockers. at MTELUS (February 29) and legendary Montreal turntable player and producer Kid Koala at Cinquième Salle (February 29 to March 3).

“Mr. Montreal” CBC arts and culture journalist and columnist Richard “Bugs” Burnett knows Montreal like a drag queen knows a makeup counter.
