Ottawa Senators win battle against Toronto Maple Leafs in Ontario | World news

NEW DELHI: In a thrilling battle in Ontario, the Ottawa Senators cruised to a 5-3 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs in the first game thanks to a strong performance from forward Josh Norris. From the NHL All-Star Break.

Norris proved the difference for the Senators, scoring the game-winning goal in the second period. His timely take on a breakaway pass from Toronto defenseman Simon Benoit saw him flick a wrister past Maple Leafs goaltender Martin Jones for his 13th goal of the season.

The Senators got offensive contributions from a host of players, with Claude Giroux, Vladimir Tarasenko, Shane Pinto and Ridley Greig finding the back of the net. Pinto in particular stood out with a goal and two assists to lead his team with three points on the night. Ottawa's offensive depth was on full display as they battled back from an early deficit to win their third straight, a feat not accomplished since November.

Goaltender Joonas Korpisalo played a key role in the Senators' win, stopping 31 shots to earn his 13th win of the season. His consistent work between the pipes has been a strong pillar for Ottawa's success, stifling Toronto's potent offensive threat and preserving the lead.

Despite a valiant effort by the Maple Leafs, who got goals from Auston Matthews, Matthew Knis and Max Domi, Ottawa's resilience and determination were too much to overcome. Matthews, the NHL's leading scorer, added to his impressive tally with his 42nd goal of the season, but it didn't give Toronto the win.

The game was not without its physicality, with a scrum at the end of the game sparked by Greig's empty net goal adding extra intensity to a heated contest between the two teams.

With the win, the Senators improved their record in the Battle of Ontario and picked up their third win in four games against the Maple Leafs this season. The loss to Toronto featured the absence of veteran defenseman Mark Giordano, who was sidelined with an injury, as the Maple Leafs looked to regroup after a tough road loss.
