Two-year-old Kiara Langton is a normal little girl. She is energetic, incredibly bright and always smiling. You would never know that he is in remission from leukemia.

“You never think it's going to be your child. You never thought you'd hear those words. You couldn't imagine it in your wildest dreams,” Chiara's mother Christine Kluge said.

Last April, Chiara was diagnosed with leukemia. The baby was immediately admitted to the Montreal Children's Hospital, where he spent his second birthday. In the last 10 months, he underwent two surgeries, chemotherapy, countless injections, visited hundreds of doctors, and received four blood transfusions.

“It's been a long time coming and he handles it like a champ,” Klug said. “She's the toughest and bravest little girl you'll ever meet. He carries it like a character with a smile on his face.

Now that Chiara is recovering, her parents are trying to pay her. They recently came across a Facebook post by HEMA Quebec, which encouraged people with blood type O+ and O- to consider donating because the blood supply is dwindling.

Since this is Chiara's blood type, the family decided to hold a blood drive in their daughter's name on February 19.

Kiara's father, Ryan Langton, said: “At first I was shocked when I saw that she had been given a pint of blood.” “I was shocked, I couldn't believe it. I thought of a man whom I would never meet, whom I could never thank, but who, out of the goodness of his heart, decided one day to donate blood on the street, and that blood saved his life.

Although Chiara is doing well today, her parents say she still has a long way to go. He is in the maintenance phase, which means fewer hospital visits, but daily chemotherapy at home and IV chemotherapy every three months.

However, her family slowly began to integrate her into her earlier life diagnosis through play dates and dance lessons. A few months before her third birthday, she wants to pay it forward too – and says she wants to be a doctor when she grows up.

“I want to help some people,” Chiara said.
