Vigar scored a hat trick as the Flames beat the Islanders for the 4th time

Markstrom provided the key assist for the goal.

Kyle Palmieri thought he had tied it for the Islanders at 13:59, but the Flames successfully countered as Pierre Engvall entered the offensive zone before the puck.

Huberdeau made it 2-0 on the power play at 8:38 of the second period, when Varlamov scored on a putback after Noah Hanifin stopped a one-timer.

Vigar's second at 15:16 made it 3-0. After Walker Duer rattled in the low slot, the puck went straight to Vigar, who one-timed past Varlamov's blocker.

“He's unbelievable,” Huberdeau said of Vigar. “He was just rewarded tonight and scored his first hat-trick. Keep your head down, shoot the puck and it's going to happen this year, so that's good.

“… He doesn't get a chance to score a hat-trick every game, so I'm really happy for him. He worked hard for it all his life.”

Nelson cut it to 3-1 at 4:00 of the third period when his wrist shot from the high slot beat a screened Markstrom over the glove.

“It's tough. I don't think it was our best,” Nelson said. “I wouldn't say it's been terrible, but for some reason we haven't been able to generate a lot of time in possession and in the attacking zone in the last two weeks. We found ourselves in a hole early, and when we started to find it in the third, we were a little late.”

Coleman made it 4-1 with an empty net goal at 15:59, but Page cut it to 4-2 at 17:28.

Vigar completed his hat trick with an empty-net goal at 19:38 of the 5-2 final.

“Up until the last seven or eight minutes of the third period, I thought it was a pretty complete game for us like we saw in Boston (Tuesday's 4-1 win),” Calgary coach Ryan Huska said. “We had all kinds of contributions from people, so that was also something important.”
