Mike Matheson has made the top ten in three separate categories over the past year

In Montreal, especially outside of Kirby Dutch, there is only one trio. Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield and Juraj Slafkowski appear to be the only producers.

In Washington, this trio scored three of five goals. And this afternoon against the Stars, they scored both goals in a loss.

But let's not forget that in addition to these three, there is also Mike Matheson. He's truly the number one defenseman on this team, and he's among the best in many categories throughout the NHL.

First, as noted by TVA Sports statistician Guillaume Villemire, Matheson ranks in the top 10 among all defensemen in goals (14), points (64) and average playing time per game (just over 25 minutes) over his last 82 games. last 365 days.

64 points in an 82 game season is stellar production, especially for a quarterback. To think Kent Hughes traded him for Jeff Petry and Ryan Poehling…Robbery.

Tomorrow, the Quebecer will play his 100th game in the uniform of his boyhood club. In 99 games, he scored 72 points.

For $4.875 million annually, the lefty is discounted here. He'll be a UFA in two years, and could move up nicely if he continues to produce at this rate. Will it be in Montreal? It's obviously easier said than done right now, but anything can happen in two years.

Keep in mind that defensemen like Lane Hutson, Adam Engstrom, Logan Maillu and David Reinbacher are supposed to be NHL players. After all, there aren't millions of defensive positions in a 23-man lineup…
