Tuesday Banter: Jays Stuff – Bluebird Banter

It's Tuesday, but still little Blue Jays news. We should hear the outcome of Vlad's arbitration hearing soon. We're told Justin Turner will wear number 2 with the Jays. The last Jay to wear #2 was Jake Lamb. Others to wear it include Aaron Hill, Troy Tulowitzki, Kelly Johnson, Otis Nixon, Nelson Liriano and Danny Ainge.

The Jays have announced non-roster spring calls. Teams always call up a group of catchers (pitchers need someone to throw. Other than that, they call up some top prospects to see what major league camp is all about. Add in minor league signees and you get this group.

MLB teams have released their spring training caps. Jace is fine. All 30 have a post rating in the score. They have the Jays cap fourth (but then the Diamondbacks cap third, and I think that's terrible).

The big news yesterday was the Royals signing Bobby Witt to an 11-year extension worth at least $288.78 million and $377 million. He will receive a $7,777,777 signing bonus. Opt-out available after each season between 2030 and 2033.

I wish Jailer would do the same with Bo and Vlad.

The Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame has announced its Class of 2024.

  • Russell Martin
  • Ashley Stevenson is the second woman inducted into the Hall. He won six medals with the Canadian national team and coaches the Vancouver Canadians.
  • Jimmy Kay
  • Rod Heisler: Played in 14 tournaments for Canada, including the 1984 Olympics.
  • Paul Godfrey: I'm surprised he wasn't in the hall. Why did it take so long?
  • Howard Birney: President of Leaside Baseball for 52 years. I can't imagine doing anything for 52 years.

Clayton Kershaw has signed with the Dodgers for one more season. Terms have not yet been released.
