In it Free press review Hold your tongue, Bev Sandell Greenberg called the book “a richly textured and thought-provoking contemporary debut novel”, praising Tetreault's “quick, confident prose”. He added: “Tetreau's enthusiasm for dialogue is well demonstrated in his use of the French spoken by the townspeople. By mixing their version of the language with some English, it gives readers a context for the verbal exchanges … it immerses us in the cadences and idiosyncrasies of the language, thereby authenticating and enriching the novel.”
