Sharp and Loud in River Heights – Winnipeg Free Press

Suffice to say there are few, if any, 94-year-old homes like 344 Brock St. in River Heights, says Scott Moore of RE/MAX One's Moore Group.

“This house is basically two houses in one,” he says of the two-story house. “The original house was built in 1931. However, a little over 50 years later, in 1983, a further addition was made to the rear of the house.'

The addition not only added significant square footage to the home — it now measures 2,349 square feet, much larger than its original footprint — but also changed the home's personality.

This home is full of charm and combines character with modern updates.

“Take the front of the house,” says Moore. “You enter into a spacious foyer with oak beams and an original oak staircase that works with the classic central hall floor plan. The only hint that this house has something special is a chic, modern light fixture instead of a chandelier.”

Like most 1931 River Heights homes, the wide entry opens with a wide door on the right and another door at the end.

As always, the door on the right leads to a large living room.

“It's just what you'd expect – a large window in the side wall and a wood-burning fireplace surrounded by white brick and two grand piano windows on either side. Of course, there is a white hill with a crown and magnificent oak trees.

Then, typically to the left and wall, double wide doors with French doors lead you into the grand dining room, elegantly defined by a crown molding medallion ceiling and large, beautifully framed windows to the side. back walls.

According to Moore, the home's decor changes dramatically the moment you walk through the door that connects to the dining room and kitchen.

“This is where the supplement starts,” he noted. “At first, the only thing you see is the beautiful tile floor. Then you turn the corner and see the kitchen.”

Suffice to say, a 1930s kitchen isn't even that far off.

“This is a true chef's kitchen with a huge island, a Thermador induction stove, tons of cabinets, tile backsplash, quartz countertops, and a Jenn-Air refrigerator. There is also a large window above the sink and a dining area for four. There's even room for a desk.”

He adds that the situation will improve.

“The addition also allowed for a family room with another wood-burning fireplace in a great location next to the kitchen. It comes with a wood-burning fireplace and is surrounded by glass, including a large window on the back wall and a sliding patio door that leads you to a private deck and fenced yard.

As expected, the addition also had a significant impact on the second level of the house.

“For starters, there are three large bedrooms that are perfect for young children to grow into,” she says. “There's also a spacious four-piece bath with a classic tile floor that the kids will call their own.”

That leaves the master bedroom, which, because it's built over the kitchen, checks in at 20.6 feet by 10.2 feet.

“The only word to describe it is massive. Not only is the master bedroom itself large—it has a gorgeous, vaulted ceiling that adds to the sense of space—it's also equipped with a large closet and a walk-in shower that was updated in 2020 with tile. floor and new wall hangings,” says Moore.

It's not all basic luxury, he adds.

“Also opposite the bed is a stunning space surrounded by four windows that could be used as a sunroom or in this case an office. It adds great character and natural light to the bedroom.”
