After several failed carjackings, the two were charged

A man and a woman face a total of 17 charges after an attempted carjacking in the northeast of the city.

At approximately 4:15 a.m. on Sunday, February 4, 2024, a man was attempting to pull out of the parking lot of a convenience store located at 5260 Falsbridge Gate NE when a black Ford F150 blocked his path. The driver of the F150 approached the victim's vehicle with a shotgun and took control of the vehicle. The victim ran away from the car and entered a nearby store. The suspect failed to start the victim's vehicle due to his inability to drive a standard vehicle and fled the area in an F150.

About 30 minutes later, in the 0 to 100 block of Rundleson Way NE, a woman was clearing snow from her car when an F150 approached her. When the woman saw the driver of the F150 approaching her car with a firearm, she quickly locked herself in the car and fled in her car.

A short time later, at approximately 5:10 a.m., a man was sitting in his car in the 6000 block of Pinepoint Drive NE. Two people approached the car and a man with a hunting rifle demanded that the victim get out of the car. The driver fled on foot while a man armed with a shotgun and a woman entered the vehicle. The suspects failed to start the vehicle and fled the scene in an F150.

Officers located an abandoned F150 near the intersection of NE 26th Avenue and NE 56th Street The area was cordoned off as the driver and passenger were missing. At 6 o'clock in the morning, police officers, with the help of a canine unit, found and arrested two suspects.

Levi BARRETT, 21, of Calgary, was charged with:

· Three counts of robbery with a firearm
· One count of reckless use of a weapon
· One count of possession of a firearm without a licence
· One count of possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle
· One count of unauthorized possession of a firearm
· One count of theft of a motor vehicle
· One count of possession of stolen property under $5,000
· Two numbers of insurance
· One count of lack of registration
· One count of driving without a valid operator's license

Emma JESSUP, 21, of Calgary, was charged with:

· Three counts of robbery with a firearm
· One count of reckless use of a weapon
· One count of possession of a firearm without a licence
· One count of possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle
· One count of unauthorized possession of a firearm
· One count of theft of a motor vehicle
· One count of possession of stolen property under $5,000

Barrett and Jessup will appear in court next Friday, February 9, 2024.
