A Delta flight made an emergency landing at the Montreal airport after smoke was detected

A flight from New York made an emergency landing at Montreal's Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport on Friday after officials said there was smoke on board.

Airport spokeswoman Anne-Sophie Hamel said the captain called for emergency services before landing the plane with 69 people on board. As a precaution, the twin jetliner was evacuated on the tarmac and there were no injuries.

In videos posted on social media, passengers can be seen walking along the tarmac surrounded by fire trucks with their lights shining.

“Airport operations are now back to normal,” Hamel said in an email.

The flight departed from New York's LaGuardia Airport at 15:25 and landed in Montreal at 17:40.

The airline said passengers were bussed to the terminal and the plane would be transferred to a gate where it would be assessed.

“First responders confirm the aircraft is OK,” Delta spokesman Anthony Black said in an email.

The cause of the incident is being determined.
