Florida rapper Kodak Black charged with drug possession – Winnipeg Free Press

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) – A drug possession charge against South Florida rapper Kodak Black was dropped Friday, two months after his arrest, although a 2022 drug-trafficking case remains pending.

Broward County District Judge Barbara Duffy ruled that prosecutors cannot deny or disprove the fact that the rapper, whose real name is Bill Capri, had an oxycodone prescription filled at a pharmacy, the Sun Sentinel reported.

In December, Plantation police arrested Capri after he was found sleeping behind the wheel with white powder in his mouth, officials said. The powder initially tested positive for cocaine, but a lab test later revealed it was oxycodone, for which Capri received a prescription in July 2022.

Capri still faces charges of tampering with evidence related to the arrest, but her attorney, Bradford Cohen, hopes to have her dismissed as well. Capri has been in a federal detention center in Miami since his arrest, which caused his bond to be revoked in a separate case. Cohen hopes dropping the drug charge will prompt a federal judge to release Capri.

Capri was arrested in 2022 on charges of trafficking oxycodone and possession of a controlled substance without a prescription. He was released with regular drug testing as a condition of his release. Capri was ordered to undergo 30 days of drug rehabilitation early last year after missing a drug test in February and then testing positive for fentanyl a few days later, according to court records. Then last June, a warrant was issued for his arrest after authorities said he failed a drug test.
