Toronto broke daily record for warmest February 9th in 8 decades – Toronto

The city of Toronto surpassed the previous daily high on Friday, February 9, amid unusually warm weather for the winter season.

As of 10 a.m., Toronto Pearson Airport recorded a temperature of 11.4 C, officially breaking the daytime record for that time.

By 11 o'clock in the morning, the temperature rose to 13.2 degrees. At 13.00, the temperature reached 14.4 degrees.

According to Global News meteorologist Ross Hull, the previous record for the day was 10.6 degrees Celsius in 1938, 80 years ago.

“The Colorado low is moving into northwestern Ontario and southern Ontario, and the Greater Toronto-Hamilton area is in the warm sector of the low that is pumping warm air from the southern United States into the Great Lakes,” Hull said.

With more sunshine, temperatures are expected to rise as the day progresses, Hull said.

However, Hull noted that the hottest February was 17.7C on February 23, 2017.

Hull's 10-day weather trend for Toronto shows Friday as the warmest, with a high of 7 C on Saturday and a high of 3 C on Sunday. By the end of the ten days, the forecast is for a low of -4 C.
