An excavator hit a gas pipeline in downtown Toronto, closing the road

A portion of Queen Street West is closed to traffic after an excavator hit a gas line, police said.

It happened around 1:10 a.m. near Spadina Avenue and Queen Street West

Westbound lanes of Queen Street are closed at Spadina Avenue and eastbound lanes are closed at Peter Street, police said.

Police are urging residents to “avoid the area” and consider other routes.
