Toronto police have issued a safety alert after a woman suffered life-changing injuries in a dog attack

Toronto police have issued a public safety alert after a woman suffered life-changing injuries in a dog attack in Etobicoke.

On Wednesday, police were called to an animal complaint in the area of Martin Grove Road and John Garland Boulevard around 8:39 p.m.

Police said the woman was waiting at a bus stop when two dogs without owners or leashes approached her.

Dogs started attacking a woman who tried to defend herself with a personal trading card. According to the police, the dogs dragged the woman to the ground and continued to attack her.

The woman was eventually able to seek safety in a passerby's car. Another passerby followed the dogs and saw them attack the bicyclist and try to attack a resident in his yard and a TTC Wheel-trans operator who managed to close the door in time.

The woman was taken to the hospital with serious, life-changing but non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

The two dogs are described as black and white, with larger builds and possibly Pit Bull Terriers or a similar breed.

Police released a photo of the dogs.

Investigators are asking for the public's help in identifying the dogs and their owner because of public safety concerns.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 416-808-2300, Crime Stoppers at 416-222-TIPS (8477) or anonymously at www.222tips.com.
