Toronto police: Man found shot in Liberty Village apartment

A man is in the hospital after a shooting at a Liberty Village condominium complex Thursday night.

Toronto police Const. Victor Kwong said police received a call about shots fired at a building on Ordnance Street in the area of Strachan Avenue and Wellington Street West.

When officers arrived, they found a man in the lobby with gunshot wounds, Kwong said. He was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

In addition to 14 officers from the unit, an Emergency Task Force and a K9 unit were dispatched to the scene, Kwong said.

“We have what we think is the beginning of what happened on the seventh floor, so we have to cover it to prove it,” he said.

“We also locked down many other locations while we searched to make sure there was no one with a gun or evidence was destroyed.”

Kwong said police had no suspect information and no weapons were found. He said police have not determined a motive for the shooting.

Asked if the victim was a resident of the building, Kwong said he did not know.

He urged anyone with information, including the video, to contact police or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
