Women's fencing will compete at the OUA Championships in Toronto

The young Brock Badgers women's fencing team will travel to the University of Toronto for the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Women's Fencing Championships from Saturday, February 10th to February 11th.

A total of 13 teams will compete for the regional championship. The first day will be an individual competition, and the team relay will be held on Sunday.

For the head coach Tim Stangthis weekend will give you a chance to see how far the team has come.

“I'm excited to see the hard work I've put in this season pay off,” Stang said. “This will be the culmination of the focus and efforts of our athletes and coaches.”

To kick off the season, the Badgers participated in the Hugh Munby Queen's Fencing Tournament, led by a fourth-year studio art major. Sarah Fellman. The Brooklyn, N.Y. product placed sixth in foil. Fellman is seeking a third medal at the OUA Championships after previously winning bronze medals in the women's foil team relay in 2020 and 2022. He recently finished fifth at the Western Open and Winterfest and hopes to continue that momentum in Toronto.

The women's epee team took part in the next tournament Akanksha Gulia, Daniel Martin, Tamara Tait and Sarah Wilson Ninth place out of 23 teams at the RMC Invitational.

With Gulriya By Kirsten O'Brien and Wylan Clitheroe Stang are new players who are looking for big results in the coming years.

Guleria, who is new to fencing, is a strategic and deep thinker with great potential, while O'Brien, who is new to the sport, finished ninth at the Western Open. Clitheroe represents a tonne potential and 16 are deployedth at the Newmarket Invitational in late November.

At the Brock Open, held at home in Ian D. Beddis Gymnasium, Isamaris Escano shining. The Burlington product and graduate student was ranked No. 10th Out of 44 competitors in saber at the Brock Open. Although he took up the sport later, Escano is a naturally gifted athlete who brings a wealth of sports experience.

With a young and exciting group of fencers, the Badgers will look to surprise and move up the table in this year's competition.
