The Maple Leafs “hear and feel the passion” during their annual outdoor workout.

Tavares, who has 40 points (15 goals, 25 assists) in 49 games, will look to extend his scoring streak to four games Saturday when they play the Ottawa Senators (26-15-8) (7 p.m. ET; CBC, TVAS, SNE, SNO, SNP ). Tavares has six points in his last three games (three goals, three assists) after going nine without, the longest streak of his time in Toronto.

“Everybody can feel a little fresher, you get a little bit of a break (Toronto's eight-day layoff ended Sunday) and energy, but I've been really happy with my performance all season,” Tavares said.

“In 82 (games), there's always one or two games where you want to play better, but the foundation of my game throughout the year I think has been really strong, so it's good to see those things going and being rewarded, so to play well and have that consistency means to save only.

After training, the players tried their best to get as many autographs and take pictures as possible.

“It's a nice change of pace for us this season,” quarterback Morgan Rielly said. “It's always good and always fun to be part of the community, to be involved with the city. We value our fans, so it's a good opportunity for us to come out here and have fun and give them a good workout.”

Some, including Reeves and Tavares, stayed on the ice for about 20 minutes, taking the opportunity to share the experience with their children.

“My kid started playing hockey and he eats this stuff up,” Reeves said. “He scored five goals one day and now he rubs it in my face every day.”

According to coach Sheldon Keefe, he does not have much time to get on the ice with his sons due to his busy schedule during the season, so he tried to share a moment with them on the ice.

“I try to get out in the summer as much as I can, but you try to appreciate moments like this as much as you can,” Keefe said. “My kids are coming of age here and you try to appreciate and maximize any opportunity to do something like this.

“I miss a lot, and they miss their dad a lot, so to be able to come out here and have the privilege to be at the event, I want to make sure they have the opportunity to do that.”
