The Toronto Raptors have acquired South Kamloops grad Kelly Olynyk

Kelly Olynyk, a Kamloops kid who grew up in Toronto, headed north of the border to join the Raptors.

The Utah Jazz traded Kamloops South High School graduate Ochai Agbaji to the Toronto Raptors for Kyra Lewis, Otto Porter and a 2024 first-round pick.

Olynyk averaged 8.1 points, 5.1 rebounds and 4.4 assists in 50 games for the Jazz this season, second on the team and 11th in the NBA.

The 32-year-old averaged 10.2 points, 5.2 rebounds and 2.4 assists in 728 career NBA games. He joins his sixth NBA team after stints in Boston, Miami, Houston and Detroit.

Drafted 13th overall by the Dallas Mavericks in the 2013 NBA Draft, Olynyk played college basketball at Gonzaga University, where his jersey hangs on a rope.

Olynyk, who captained Team Canada to the 2023 FIBA ​​Basketball World Cup in the Philippines, joins a Raptors team that includes Canadians RJ Barrett and Chris Boucher, who were acquired in late December.

The trio could wear the maple leaf in Paris when Canada plays in the 2024 Olympics.
