A “nice change of scenery” outdoor exercise for the Toronto Maple Leafs

“The passion this city and fan base has for the Leafs is amazing,” said captain John Tavares. “It's really special. Many of us grew up playing on outdoor ice rinks, so skating is cool and fun for us. You can hear and feel the passion and love for this team.”

Defender Morgan Rielly said: “It's a pleasure, a nice change of scenery. It's a long season, so it's fun to get out and enjoy it and be in downtown Toronto.”

Under cloudy skies, the Leafs played a 3-on-3 tournament after a short warm-up at their annual outdoor event. Their transportation involved leaving the Scotiabank Arena, getting on the subway at Union Station, and donning their gear at Queen Station.

“It's a mix of confusion and excitement,” trainer Sheldon Keefe said, referring to the other riders. “Some people ask questions (and) don't know what's going on, while others plan ahead and wait for us.

“It's another great way to connect with the city and the community. It's great that guys can do that.”
