Crowfoot Club figure skaters are headed to the Alberta Winter Games

Twelve-year-old Amelia Meissner, 15-year-old Camby Stollery and 15-year-old Willow Cera take turns skating at the Norma Busch Arena.

They jump a few more times and reinforce those rotations.

The trio is from the Crowfoot Figure Skating Club and this will be their first experience at the Alberta Winter Games this year in Grand Prairie.

Meissner says he can't wait to get on the bus next Friday.

“I'm excited to go around and meet new people and compete in one of the biggest races I'll ever be in.”

You want to do good

This will be the biggest competition for all of them.

While the experience is fun, Stollery says he also wants to skate well.

“I want to skate my best and maybe get some personal points. Like a personal best score.”

Hope to learn from others

This is the first Games for all three, so they have a lot to learn.

This is what Sera planned.

“I can learn by watching the highs,” he said.

“It's really cool and I can see how their skating affects me.”

A big deal for Croft Club

Crowfoot Figure Skating Club is not the biggest in Calgary.

They have about 200 members in total.

The trio is in the “Star Skate” program, which consists of about 30 children.

Jeff Berezovsky, one of Croft's coaches, said it's a big deal that the three are headed to Grand Prairie.

“I would say it's a huge achievement for the kids,” he said.

“It showed that even in smaller circles we can develop depth and quality. So I'd say it's a huge deal for a club of this size and the lads should be very proud of what they've achieved.”

The Alberta Winter Games will be held in Grand Prairie from February 16-19.
