Quebec teachers' union FSE ratifies agreement with government

The Quebec Federation of Teachers Unions (FSE) ratified the agreement with Quebec City after holding its final member meeting Wednesday evening.

“We can already say that an agreement will be reached for the Fédération des syndicats de l'enseignement,” said FSE president Jose Scalabrini.

However, the exact percentage of support will only be shared at the FSE Federal Council meeting next week.

The FSE, affiliated with the Centrale des syndicats du Québec (CSQ), represents 95,000 primary and secondary teachers, or 60 percent of them.

Although he could not yet provide an exact percentage of support, Scalabrini said the FSE's vote would not be as close as that of the FAE, the Fedération autonome de l'enseignement.

However, Scalabrini sent a message from his 95,000 members: “It is very sad that this government has not listened to the teachers' pleas.”
