GAME DAY: Jets at Flyers | Winnipeg Airplanes

PHILADELPHIA – The Winnipeg Jets will look to close out a short two-game road trip with a win tonight as they sweep the season series against the Philadelphia Flyers.

The Jets (30-13-5) lost 3-0 at Pittsburgh on Tuesday and were also shutout by Winnipeg 2-0 in their last meeting with the Flyers at the Canadian Life Centre. .

On Tuesday night, Philadelphia snapped a five-game losing streak with a 2-1 win over the Panthers in Florida. That improved the Flyers record to 26-19-6 this season.

Despite the Jets losing three games in a row in regulation (and four games without a win if the overtime loss at Toronto is included), Morgan Barron doesn't sense any disappointment in the room.

“It's a little slip and we want to get rid of it,” Barron said after the extra morning skate. “At the end of the day, in these four or five games, we liked our game, so we're still in the right frame of mind. It's just a matter of time and we'll see a few pucks find their way into the net.

It's the second time this season the Jets have lost three straight in regulation. The last time that happened, Winnipeg went 16-1-2 in their next 19 games.

Associate coach Scott Arniel felt that his team had built enough against Pittsburgh and that the reward for their efforts was at hand.

“We want to use the whole area and get them online. We want them to create seams and gaps like you do on the power play,” Arniel said. “The next part of it, the fat targets that we've talked about in training camp and we've talked about in different parts of the year, we've got to get back to getting some of those — those shots, deflections, shots, the other. pucks – so obviously we can't be too far from the net.”

Barron, who set a career high with eight goals in a season, says the Jets want to do a better job of putting bodies in front of the net. However, it is not easy to get the guys forward and test the opposing goalkeeper.

“If you send two guys to the line, they're going to have two guys box you. “If you send three guys to the line, they're going to box you three guys,” Barron said. “For me, it's about supporting the puck and making sure that one guy is always on the net. Then spread them out and try to pass the puck.”

In fact, one of Winnipeg's best five-on-five lines was the newly formed trio of Barron, Vladislav Namestnikov and Alex Iafallo. According to Natural Stat Trick, that line attempted 69.23 percent shooting and held a 3-0 advantage in high-danger opportunities.

“We were able to get some time in the o-zone, but we want to do more. I think we're still getting a feel for each other and getting used to different trends,” Barron said.

“I'm excited to have the opportunity to play with them.”

That line remains in action tonight against Philadelphia. Here's how Winnipeg's lineup looks, with Laurent Brossoit starting in goal:

Connor-Scheifele-Vilardi

Perfetti-Monahan-Ehlers

Niederreiter-Lowry-Appleton

Barron-Namestnikov-Yafallo

Morrissey-DeMelo

Samberg-Pionk

Stanley-Schmidt

After Brenden Dillon was suspended for three games in the loss to Pittsburgh, Logan Stanley tied the score for the first time since Dec. 12 and will start his eighth game of the season.

“He's done a great job of getting ready,” Arniel said. “The second half of the year – big games and big moments – and hopefully he'll be ready to go. I think he is. He's worked really hard for this opportunity.”

That meant the Jets had to make adjustments to a pair of top-four defensive ends to start the game since October. But Stanley has been patient and has been on a good team while sitting, and he doesn't know if this is his chance to help the Jets get back in the win column.

“It's tough, but you try to work as hard as you can in practice, treat it like a game when you do scrimmages and things like that,” Stanley said after Wednesday's practice. “Nothing can repeat it. It's been a while, but I hope I'm not too rusty.”

Puck drop is set for 6:00 PM CT.
