Calgary Airport expected to handle a record 18.5 million passengers in 2023

Calgary Airport says it welcomes record number of travelers in 2023.

According to the Calgary Airport Authority, Calgary International Airport handled 18.5 million passengers last year.

This figure is higher than the record of 18 million passengers set in 2019, an increase of 2.8 percent.

According to the airport authorities, the growth in 2023 means that the demand for air transport options will increase.

“We're proud that YYC plays an important role in Alberta's economy, connecting people and goods, while supporting Alberta's thriving business and tourism industry, adding nearly $8 billion to the region's GDP,” said Chris Dinsdale, president and CEO of The . This was announced by the Calgary Airport Authority in a press release on Thursday.

According to the airport authority, part of the growth may be due to increased route choice between new and existing airlines.

YYC has already announced several new destinations starting this summer, including nonstop flights to Seoul, South Korea; and Reykjavik, Iceland.

Looking ahead, the airport is preparing to begin construction in the spring on the West Runway Resurfacing Project, which is expected to cost about $200 million.

The project includes the removal and replacement of the west runway and the modernization of the surrounding area.
