WINNIPEG – Two men attacked an off-duty RCMP officer outside a Winnipeg school Wednesday.

Winnipeg police say they were called to the 800 block of Buchanan Boulevard just after 3 a.m. and found a man with injuries to his upper body.

Two men were arrested at the scene. The off-duty employee sought treatment at the hospital for his injuries.

According to police, both suspects were parked in a car during dismissal at the Buchanan school and began to riot in front of the elementary school.

The officer on duty approached the suspect's car, identified himself and asked him to leave the area due to his disorderly conduct near the school. The suspects got out of the car, threatened and physically assaulted the officer. Several people who witnessed the attack tried to stop the ongoing attack.

A 39-year-old Winnipeg man and a 44-year-old man are facing multiple charges, including assaulting a peace officer. The old man also lost his driving license.

Both were released from custody to appear in court at a later date.

Anyone with additional information is asked to call police at (204) 986-6219 or Crime Stoppers at (204) 786-TIPS (8477).
