Toronto man made hateful comments before assaulting and robbing customer at Scarborough store: police

A Toronto man has been charged after allegedly using hate speech at an employee and a customer before assaulting and robbing a customer at a Scarborough convenience store.

Officers were called to a store in the area of ​​Danforth Avenue and Worden Avenue around 1:45 p.m. Sunday for a report of a burglary.

According to police, a man entered the store and started making anti-Muslim comments to the employee. The female customer asked the male employee not to disturb the employee when the suspect began making anti-Muslim comments about her.

It is alleged that the man forced the customer and knocked him down. According to the police, he fled with his mobile phone when he fell.

Police suspect the investigation is a hate-motivated robbery.

Investigators identified the suspect as 49-year-old Toronto resident Tim Rogers. He faces three charges, including aggravated robbery and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.

The accused was scheduled to appear in a Toronto courtroom on Monday morning.
