In Montreal, cars burned and two explosions occurred before dawn

Montreal police arson investigators were assigned to three new cases Thursday morning, less than 48 hours after four fires were reported on the island.

The latest wave of fires, which happened within 90 minutes of each other, began at 1:30 a.m. Thursday, when three cars pulled up in front of a residence on Alexis Nihon Boulevard. There was a fire in the Saint-Laurent area. Within minutes, the flames spread to the fourth car and the facade of the residence.

Montreal firefighters had the blaze under control and the cause of the fire was still under investigation as of Thursday morning.

The second incident occurred around 2:40 a.m., when a firebomb was thrown from the window of a Hanover Street residence. near Graham Blvd. in Mount Royal. None of the residents were injured, the damage to the house was minor.

Finally, a firebomb was thrown from the window of the reception hall, located on St. Des Nations in St. Laurent. No one was in the hall at the time and it was slightly damaged.

No arrests had been reported as of early Thursday.

Thursday's fires came after four fires were reported early Tuesday morning. Those fires were all over Montreal – from Notre-Dame-de-Grace in the west end to Riviere de Prairie in the east end of the city – a building on Monkland Avenue was evacuated after an explosion at a beauty salon on the first floor. .

The investigation into these fires is ongoing and no arrests have been made.
