Here are OpenTable's most romantic restaurants in Toronto

Valentine's Day is just around the corner, but if you haven't made plans yet, don't worry, there's still time to book a table at one of Canada's most romantic restaurants.

According to a new study by OpenTable, 14 of the 100 most romantic restaurants in Canada are located right here in Toronto.

Open Table says 51 percent of Valentine's Day 2023 reservations are at least five days in, so diners who book by Friday still have a chance to secure their spot.

The list was created by analyzing more than 1.1 million restaurant reviews and metrics, including ratings and the percentage of restaurant reviews labeled “romantic,” according to OpenTable.

The most romantic restaurant in all of Canada was Alvin's Jazz Club in Calgary, followed by Ancaster Mill in Hamilton and Arôme in Gatineau – Casino du Lac Leamy, QC.

According to reports, partygoers love to splurge on Valentine's Day.

According to OpenTable, “In 2023, average spending per meal on Valentine's Day was up 48 percent year-over-year compared to non-holidays.”

Additional consumer research predicts this trend will continue in 2024, with 73 percent of Canadians planning to spend the same or more on Valentine's Day than last year.

There has also been a rise in solo dining trends as more people choose to dine alone on Valentine's Day.

According to OpenTable's consumer research, if they were to spend Valentine's Day alone, 15 percent of participants said they would go to a fun cafe for coffee and snacks, 12 percent said they would go to a buffet or bottomless dinner, and 11 percent wanted to have a meal. a dining experience such as a wine and food pairing or tasting menu, and 10 percent planned to treat themselves at an award-winning restaurant.

“New consumer research shows that a quarter of Canadians dine out on Valentine's Day as an opportunity to date yourself and learn self-love,” OpenTable Canada Country Director Matt Davis said in a statement.

The online survey was conducted by PureSpectrum among 1,501 Canadian consumers on Valentine's Day attitudes and behaviors. Research field work took place from January 19 to 24, 2024. Within this sample, a quota was applied to large cities for direct comparison.
