The housing and rental market in the Greater Toronto Area has been terrible over the past few years, with all kinds of spaces being rented out at very high prices.

The latest horror has once again come out of Brampton, where a landlord rents out several rooms and even has people living in cars.

According to an Instagram post shared by NMG Brampton, “A house in Brampton has several rooms for rent and people are living in cars in the driveway.” “They were also seen urinating on the edge of the house.”

The post was also shared on Reddit's Toronto real estate page, and unfortunately, many of the comments on social media were surprisingly mixed, proving just how dire the rental market has become.

“That's what happens when housing is unaffordable,” one person said.

“There are cars in Walmart parking lots in Brampton where the whole family sleeps night after night,” they continued. “It's ridiculous that two people working full time can no longer provide basic housing for their children. What have we done?'

Canada Mortgage and Housing Corp. reported that rental prices in Canada rose sharply last year as supply failed to keep up with demand.

Kevin Hughes, CMHC's deputy chief economist, said that this resulted in the lowest national vacancy rate on record since they began tracking the data in 1988, which is not surprising.

“Yes, the rental market is more affordable than the property market, but the market itself is very scary for many people.”
